Mahjong Ways 2 keeps the tile theme but changes the grid: it is a 5-reel, 4-row video slot with an extra row on each of reels 2, 3 and 4. PG Soft’s games timeline dates it to 14 April 2020. The question most players have is whether the sequel is worth choosing over the first, so the comparison below runs on numbers.
Mahjong Ways 2 against the first game
| Item | Mahjong Ways | Mahjong Ways 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Layout | 5 reels, 4 rows | 5x4 grid plus a row on reels 2, 3 and 4 |
| Ways to win | 1,024 | 2,000 |
| Volatility | Medium | Medium |
| RTP | 96.92% | 96.95% |
| Free-spin multiplier | up to x10 | up to 10 times |
| Maximum win | x25000 | x100000 |
Two things stand out. RTP barely moves, so on PHP 10,000 of total stakes the sequel differs from the first by PHP 3 on average. The maximum win quadruples, which changes how far the top of the range sits from the middle, not what a typical spin costs. The original Mahjong Ways explains the free-spin rules in detail.
What a higher ceiling does and does not change
A x100000 maximum on a PHP 5 stake is PHP 500,000 on paper. Because both games are listed as Medium volatility, the spread of ordinary outcomes should feel similar, and the extra headroom exists far out in the tail.
Problem: the sequel looks “better” because the maximum is four times larger. Fix: compare RTP and ways first, then ask whether you would stake differently because of a result you will almost never see.
Problem: you pick a game by theme and never check which one is open on the platform. Fix: read the title on the lobby tile and match it to PG Soft’s page, since the two Mahjong games sit close together. If you want a different bonus design, the Lucky Neko cat slot lists the same x100000 ceiling but an RTP of 96.73%. The wider PG Soft slots table shows all five and the PG Soft hub links the rest.
PG Soft does not publish a minimum stake or a hit rate for either game. Players must be 21 or older.
Choosing between the two Mahjong slots
Pick on what you will actually notice at the screen. Four points separate the games, and the first two matter most for a peso budget.
- Ways to win: 2,000 against 1,024 means more combinations count as wins in the sequel, which is a different shape of play and not a higher return.
- RTP: 96.95% against 96.92%. The 0.03-point gap is PHP 3 on PHP 10,000 of stakes over a very long run.
- Maximum win: x100000 against x25000, a ceiling that only shows up in rare outcomes.
- Dates: PG Soft’s timeline gives 14 April 2020 for the sequel. It prints no date for the first game, so PeraPH states none.
Example: with PHP 1,500 you can buy 150 spins at PHP 10 in either game. Neither slot is built to refund that sum, and both lists use the same Medium volatility label.
If the lobby tile does not say 2, you are in the first game. That one-character difference changes the ways, the RTP and the maximum win, so look before you stake.
